HE TONO........ (The Challenge)
In 2005 Vicky KINGI (nee WEHI) the daughter of famed Te Wakahuia kaiako Drs Nan and Ngapo (BUB) WEHI laid down a tono (challenge) to her cousins and asked
"What are you guys doing about Matariki"?
"If you guys get Matariki going I will bring Te Wakahuia over to help celebrate".
Needless to say Matariki was completed some 3 weeks later with its first time showing at Pizzi Park on the Gold Coast. It was a huge success and a testament to those behind the scenes and those in front of the camera.
Matariki than took a back seat as one of the important members of our committee was battling illness. Now that our important member is back and feeling much better the ingredients for the cake mix is ready for cooking once again....and needless to say our 'important member' is feeling even more important now!
Suffice to say the ‘tono' or ‘challenge' was returned to Vicky and the conversation with her was extremely positive and lively and well...let's just say that things in the pipeline in the near future are looking really good.
A te wa e te whanau ka puta ake nga korero katoa mo wena whakaaro Rangatira kia tatou te komiti whakahaere o Matariki.
Na reira kia kaha rawa atu tatou kite kimi, kite rapu I nga tohutohu katoa a Matariki.
